On Tuesday March 14th, despite the heavy rain, three Digilant volunteers went to The Down Madrid Centre to assist with the Emotional Competence Workshop organized by three children from the Foundation. The kids were between 6 and 10 years old. The objective of this workshop was to learn how to identify emotions and how to deal with them. Some of the emotions they worked with were anger, sadness, fear, joy, surprise. To make it easier they went thought the workshop with the help of games and songs. The workshop ended with a relaxation exercise in which the children had to imagine themselves in a calm and tranquil place. They had to lay down with their eyes closed and control their breathing, while a companion gently passed a ball through their arms which acted as a massage.
The Digilant team was delighted and amazed at how such small children identified different situations and how they reacted responsibly and acted appropriately. Another surprise was to see how they were able to move from one feeling to another so quickly. As always, we are looking forward to the next workshop!
Last Wednesday, November 22nd, we had a new Digilant Cares activity with the Down Madrid Foundation. On this occasion the session was somewhat different from the previous ones. Digilant team with some specialists accompanied 7 youngsters to do the grocery shoping in a large supermarket. The session started at the NPO center and they all walked to the supermarket. Along the way they had to pay special attention with the traffic lights and the pedestrian crossings. In the supermarket, each youngster had written down on a piece of paper a product that he/she had to buy and after finding it in the right aisle and checking that it was not expired, he/she could go to the cashier to pay for it.
On Wednesday October 18th some volunteers from our Digilant Madrid Team had the opportunity to collaborate with the Down Madrid Foundation again. The October workshop entailed playing table games with young adults. The group, our Digilant Cares’ volunteers interacted with, were youngsters and adults, between 17 and 26 years old. The objective of the activity consisted in developing their visual skills by distinguishing different colors and images in a card. The activity was one hour and a half long, and time went by too fast. Looking forward to our next workshop with them in November!
We are very happy and proud to say that Marta Amigo from la Fundación Down Madrid has been working as an intern with us during the month of May.
Marta is a nineteen-year-old young girl who is in a special programme that gives youngsters the opportunity to help within a work environment. Marta surprised us all showing great communication and organizing skills. During the month of her internship she helped across every department in different issues.
Every morning when she arrived to the office she organised all chairs and tables in our meeting rooms, and she charged the printer with paper. Then depending on the day she had different tasks:
– Account department: She helped organising and printing purchase orders.
– Financial department: She organised all 2016 and 2017 invoices in alphabetical order.
– Marketing: She helped filling in the PR tracking excel spread sheet.
We have been very happy to have her as part of the team in the Digilant Madrid office. The work she´s been doing here has been of great help! After this great experience, we will absolutely repeat next year with another Kid of Fundación Down Madrid. Why don’t you try it too?
